‘In terms of improvement I feel that I have made a marked improvement especially in the last few weeks and am now…

Hypnotherapy, NLP and Voice Work – a magical combination to for the treatment of your stammer

Laura Spicer works from the JustBeWell.com clinic at 1 Harley St, London W1, specialising in Voice Coaching, especially stammering (stuttering). She is NOT a member of the Association of Speech Therapists or any such body, and does not claim to be a ‘Speech Therapist’. In fact, before seeing Laura, many of her clients had been in ‘Speech Therapy’ for a long while…

Laura’s approach is profoundly different.

Those of you that saw, or heard about Paul McKenna’s work with a long term ‘severe’ stutterer on the television program ‘This Morning’ in February 2004, will probably be interested to learn that he was using the Spicer Method, created by Laura Spicer. The fact that Paul McKenna was able to largely eradicate the man’s stammer in such a short time comes as no surprise to those of us who have seen Laura work, and the results of her work, with people suffering from speech difficulties. As a voice coach, NLP trainer, and hypnotist, Laura Spicer provides you with a unique and powerful array of abilities to help you to get results quickly.

The Spicer Method, in Laura’s words….

The Spicer Method is a combination of Neuro-Linguistic Programming and Physiological exercises. In one session of about an hour and a half you can learn all that you need to know to make a significant difference and then with your commitment to practising, within a couple of weeks you can begin to discover how the improvement starts to feel more natural and takes less effort, with the eventual aim being for you to speak more fluently as second nature.

Gain the tools that work

During the sessions there may be a variety of tools and techniques used. After we have talked through some of the history there may be some physical exercises and breathing techniques (although some other methods use breathing techniques they are different from the ones used here) to relax muscle tension. There may be some other exercises too – to help with confidence or to change any habitual thoughts that are feeding the stammer. Hypnosis is sometimes useful but it is important to realise that you are going to be involved in the process. The Spicer Method isn’t something that happens to you whether you like it or not! It is more like adding a new choice – you will gain the tools to speak fluently and sound normal and interesting and then it will be up to you to use them.

You stay in control

You stay in control of the process at all times. In fact the idea is that you get more control for yourself. All through the session I will share what I know and what I think will help and together we can try different things to find which of the tools will be most useful to you.

Then I will recommend a practice regime and you will go back into your life and practice using the new tools.

Where can I get treatment and how much is it?

There are two clinics from which this is available – one in Richmond Surrey, and one in Harley Street, London. The cost of the initial two hour session is £370 and includes follow up telephone calls in which your progress can be tracked, you can be supported in your progress, and further advice – if needed – can be given over the phone. It will be up to you to make the calls and you may be asked to leave a message and have your call returned later. It is also possible to use SMS for this.

If you do need a follow up appointment – some people do – it is charged at £185 and is one hour. Results cannot be guaranteed as each person is unique and different but the great majority of people who use the Spicer Method find they make significant improvements and I can guarantee I will do my absolute best.

Because this Method involves the client practising and because in the first place the client will be asked certain questions about how it feels and what are the thoughts at the time of stammering it is not a Method that is applicable to children under about 10. However, some parents like to bring young children along so that I can assess them and offer recommendations of how the parents can help to encourage fluency. In these cases the session costs £185.

Because appointment times get very booked up, you are asked to send a deposit of £100.00 to secure your booking. This deposit is forfeited in the event of a cancellation by the client. The balance is payable at the time of the appointment.

At the current time, this treatment cannot be given over the phone or the internet although we are in the process of filming a DVD that will be available shortly for those who are outside of the UK or those who just prefer working from a DVD. Also, this DVD will be available to other therapists who would like to incorporate the Method into their own practice.
