The daily life of a carer of someone with a disability or illness is one that can be enormously stressful over an extended time.  People looking after a friend or relative with conditions that can be debilitating such as Alzheimer’s, cancer and other conditions, often find themselves living their lives with little or no time for themselves.  However, your ability to provide quality care for another is dependent upon your state of mind. No-one is always in the perfect state of mind to deal with someone else’s problems, but if your stress and anxiety has reached the point where your quality of life is well below what it could be then you owe it to yourself, and the person you care for, to do something about it.

We aren’t going to counsel you or listen to you talking about your problems for hour after hour.  The counselling process can be extremely useful for people but it isn’t what we do. This isn’t to say that you aren’t going to be stressed from time to time. We all are, and carers often find themselves in situations more stressful than most, more often.  Nevertheless it is possible to learn to be more resilient and resourceful in any situation.  Your ability to relax deeply, your ability to get enough deep restful sleep and your ability to have stress be more like ‘water off a duck’s back’ are abilities you can learn to improve.
