Introducing Andrew Cunningham
I am a therapist working in Harley St London and use EFT as a vital tool
in my work helping people with their difficulties. My work has been shown
on UK TV 'Harley St' for the last 2 years demonstrating the positive effects
of EFT. I have a website www.findinghelp.co.uk which is the only therapy
website which gives free video instruction on using EFT.
Introducing EFT
EFT stands for emotional freedom therapy. Simply stated it is a mix of acupuncture without needles and
psychotherapy.
It involves the tapping of meridian points on the body while the patient
'tunes into' their problem. It can be applied to a wide range of physical
and mental problems from addictions to pain including emotional issues
giving as the name implies emotional freedom. One of the strengths of EFT
is that it can applied as a self-help therapy...the client can tap on themselves.
It is also very simple to apply. By tapping on 9 acupressure points and
a bit of psychological detective work headway can be made quickly without
the need for a therapist. The acupressure points used are from the field
of acupuncture but the absence of needles make the therapy a safe method
of self-help.
Where did it come from?
Gary Craig from the USA simplyfied a process called TFT developed by Roger Callaghan and created EFT which made the tapping easier to apply
and has been developing the process since the 1993. Gary also added the idea that by digging for emotional roots and causes to a problem and using the tapping, the issue gets cleared, as if blocked energy in the mind body system is somehow released or unblocked.
How does it work?
The concept of clearing mind and body imbalances with acupressure points has been around a long time. So to has the notion that emotions and experiences and beliefs can contribute to disease. EFT brings together these two ideas. We can only guess "how" it works but more importantly EFT has been shown to work and give relief to many people.
What can it treat?
The founder of EFT Cary Craig is known to urge people to "Try it on everything" and has found EFT can get results in many areas almost too many to mention in this article.
Emotional Issues..Depression, Grief, Abuse, Trauma, Fear, Phobia, Intrusive thoughts, Guilt, Metal Blocks, Confidence, Panic Attacks, Anxiety
Physical Issues...Addictions, Pain, Migraine, OCD, Eating Disorders, Diabetes, High Blood Pressure
How can I apply EFT on myself?
Gary Craig has a free manual on his website www.emofree.com detailing the acupressure points and how to tap on all the possible aspects of the issue. Although EFT is simple it can take persistence and detective work to clear all the emotional roots to an issue.
I have free video instruction on my site www.findinghelp.co.uk which also shows the tapping points and tips on how to apply EFT.
What happens if I dont believe in it?
EFT works without belief. It may take a bit of persistence and detective work but it does not need the client to believe in meridian points
or the concepts of trapped energy or chakras etc.
Where can I find an EFT therapist?
Gary Craig has a list of therapists worldwide. It is also possible to get help over the phone. The EFT therapist can guide the client through the
aspects that may apply to the problem while the the client taps on themselves. EFT over the phone can be very effective and is a very useful feature.
Is it safe?
No known side effects have been noticed among the many many applications of the therapy. As in all complementary therapies it is advised to seek proper medical advice with any medical condition and EFT can work very well in conjunction with traditional medical help. When dealing with emotional issues and mental health it is always advisable to work alongside any ongoing therapy or medication and with advice from a therapist.
