Information About Polarity Therapy

What is Polarity Therapy Therapy?

Polarity therapists use their hands placed on body's energy centres and poles to balance the human energy field and its structural counterpart bringing physical, emotional, mental and spiritual imbalances into equilibrium. Energy blocks and congestion areas within the Bio-Energy field of the body are located and neutralized.

Circular pressure on sensitive contact points, light rhythmic rocking and stretching motions, joint mobilization, and energy holds are amongst the direct, body contact techniques employed by the therapist. Nutritional advice, verbal dialogue and Polarity Yoga are also employed to support the treatment.

Polarity Therapy was developed by Dr. Randolph Stone in the mid 20th century, his aim was to develop a way to keep fit and healthy on all levels, by balancing the basic positive and negative energies that constitute life. Dr Stone considered the importance of dietary considerations to be an important part of Polarity Therapy, consequently looking at a persons nutritional intake and requirements are an important part of the technique.

What happens during a Polarity Therapy treatment session ?

It is a fundamental principal of Polarity Therapy that poor health, illness, lethargy and other general maladies are all caused by an underlying malfunction of the body's Bio-Energy system. The initial consultation will normally consist of a detailed question and answer session relating to the clients general health and lifestyle as well as any specific illness or emotional issues. The therapist will normally conduct an examination of the body attempting to detect any flaws or blockages in the bio-energy flows.

Actual treatment may start in the latter part of the initial consultation or may be postponed un till the next session. Cranial holds, rocking movements, Reflexology Osteopathy and Chiropractic like techniques may be employed, but with an energetic rather than manipulative focus. The therapist will typically use both hands, or the fingers of both hands (each finger relates to a different element) linking to energetically and functionally related areas of the body, this use of both hands and fingers is known as BiPolar and is a characteristic of Polarity Therapy. The actual experience of the technique is often very emotional, sometimes resulting in tears or laughter it is difficult to described and needs to be experienced but most people agree it is very relaxing and pleasant.

The technique is suitable for everyone including the elderly, the very young or the infirm. Sometimes deep manipulation is necessary but Polarity Therapy does not require any forceful manipulations therefore stresses and strains to muscles and bones are kept to a minimum.
