Information About Pilates Therapy
What is Pilates Therapy?
Joseph
Pilates developed a series of exercises to strengthen his
body and help improve his health whilst he was interned in Germany
during WWII. He based his exercise program on yoga techniques adapted
with Zen philosophical ideas, he is also believed to have been influenced
by some of the physical and spiritual aspects of the classical ancient
world, notably the Greeks and Romans.
During his internment Pilates found that his exercise technique not only
improved his physical strength and health but also appeared to improve
his resistance to disease and aid his emotional stability. As the
war progressed and conditions in the camp deteriorated his fellow
inmates began to suffer more and more, both physically and mentally,
he began to teach his exercises to other internees. Pilates developed
floor / mat movements as well as experimenting with various
pieces of apparatus made from bed springs, the resistance provided
by the springs proved perfect for the workouts he was developing
and the general condition of all who practiced his techniques greatly
improved
Modern Pilates exercises use a variety of stretching and
balancing movements designed
to improve flexibility and strength. All the current workouts are based
on the original system developed during the dark days of World War
II.

are convinced of the beneficial effects in all areas of health and
well being. The influence of Yoga make it effective in the relieve
