Information About Holistic Dentistry
What is Holistic Dentistry ?
Some modern dental practitioners take a holistic approach to dental problems,
what this means is they view the condition of oral health to be one
facet of the overall physical and emotional health of the patient. They
hold that for dental health procedures to be truly effective the whole
person must be treated not just the oral area.
The vast majority of dental problems are easily preventable provided
that the simple, necessary measures are take on a regular basis. Including
the whole person, mind and body in the approach to dental health makes
it easier to prevent dental and other health problems in the future.
Holistic Dental practitioners will typically not use Silver Amalgam fillings
believing that the 50 - 50 silver / Mercury mix may be unsafe to general
health and therefore not suitable as part of dental treatment. Practitioners
following this line will sometimes describe themselves as 'metal free'
dentists.
Some holistic dental practices offer other alternative therapies to compliment their work, these may included homeopathy and acupuncture. Many dentists, holistic or not recognise the benefits of hypnotherapy and NLP in combating dental phobia.
