Information About Colour Therapy
What is Colour Therapy?
Colour Therapy is founded on the believe that colour in the form of the
visible light spectrum is absorbed by the body and reacts in a positive
or negative way with the nervous and other body systems. This reaction
to a particular light frequency or colour can often trigger the production
of hormones causing dramatic changes to the physical, emotional and
or mental state.
The spectrum has 7 colours each one of which is believed to be related
to one of the 7 'Chakras' or energy points. These Chakras are central
to the philosophies behind many ancient far eastern medical traditions
and are located laterally down the body starting at the crown of
the head they are distributed down the spinal column to the genitals.
Symptoms of physical disease or mental and emotional problems can
be a refection of the state of the Chakra energy points. Sometimes
through stress, overwork, poor lifestyle or over / under exposure
to a particular colour can cause these energy points to become unbalanced
and produce unwanted symptoms. Indeed the well known seasonal condition
'SAD' (Seasonal Adjusted Disorder) is often attributed by colour
therapists to a lack of colour balance caused by light and consequently
colour starvation.
What happens at a Colour Therapy treatment session ?
The therapist may use a variety of techniques to discover in what way
your are out of colour balance. These may include, dowsing, checking
colour related muscle strength and the consultation of colour therapy
charts. There will be an extensive verbal consultation enabling the
therapist to get a complete picture of your situation. Having gained
as much knowledge as possible the therapist will use there experience
and training to decide on which colour the treatment will focus on.
Coloured light will be applied to some or all of the body using the techniques
favoured by your particular therapist. example methods for generating
the required colour may be the shining of light through a coloured
screen such as tinted water, glass, acetate sheets, scarves or even
the more traditional faceted gems.
You will probably receive advice and guidance on what colours to make
more or less prevalent in your everyday home and working life.
A typical treatment session lasts from 1 to 2 hours.
